To celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AAPI), The City of Elk Grove is partnering with Sinful Treats to offer a “How To Make Lumpia” Cooking Class. We will be celebrating diversity and culture in a fun, very hands on class. Sign up now and bring your appetite!
Making Lumpias is an old tradition handed down from generation to generation in most Filipino families. Each family usually have their own guarded recipe that’s unique to the island province they come from. Our recipe comes from the province of Pampanga, known for having the best cooks in the Philippines.
In this class, you will learn the basics of making Lumpia Shanghai, which includes:
- a simple and easy meat filling recipe made of pork
- techniques on how to roll Lumpias, and types of wrapper to use
- tips on how to properly store, freeze and cook them
- BONUS option to order Pansit to complete your dinner, and frozen Lumpias to take home
This class includes all ingredients you’ll need. You will have enough to take home with you. You also have an option to pre-order frozen Lumpias to take home with you.
Class is taught by Mariel Black (Sinful Treats) and Jerlyn Vinuya (Jhenn Vin Sweet Tooths).

We really enjoyed the class. Our only feedback would be to maybe play some music in the background, so the instructor doesn’t feel she needs to constantly be providing commentary. It would be an added bonus if there was a few Philippine songs…facts about the culture traditions, etc. But, those would only be added bonuses to an already great class!

We had a great time. You went the extra mile deep frying all of our Lumpia’s. We will be watching for more classes! So cute your boys also help! Great family atmosphere.
